Apprenticeship Programme

 

This programme is designed to enable learners to develop and apply learned industrial standards to increase productivity, efficiency and quality.

The learners for this programme are selected after they have successfully completed their Grade 12 basic education certificate.

All learners selected must have passed their Grade 12 with Mathematicss, Science and English at a minimum of 50% plus two trade relevant technical subjects from an accredited college (N1 - N6). ArcelorMittal offers apprenticeship in the following specialised areas:

 

  • Millwright
  • Fitter
  • Fitter and Turner
  • Turner
  • Rigger
  • Roller Turner
  • Instrumentation Mechanician
  • Refractory Mason
  • Electrician
  • Boilermaker
  • Welder.

Learners will be subjected to an interview and all successful candidates will undergo assessments.

How is the training programme?

The programme duration is 18 months, which include formal classroom training and work integrated learning.

What does the learnership cover?

The learnership covers training cost and includes a monthly bursary allowance.

What happens after 18 months of training?

Successful apprenticeship candidates can, upon completion of the apprenticeship programme on first attempt, be selected for the ArcelorMittal Candidate Artisan programme.

All learners must have passed their national trade test and received their statement of results. They are offered a temporary position to undergo the 12 month training programme. They will work in a centralised pool concept and after completion of the training programme will be eligible for permanent
placement as an artisan.
