Exhibition hall

We invite primary and secondary schools from both urban and rural areas to visit the centre. Those who are unable to visit due lack of funds are bussed from their schools to the centre and back free of charge.

To generate an interest in science learners explore our exhibition hall which houses various interactive science exhibits.

Our exhibits are hand-on with an instructions and detailed explanations that make them educational, understandable and enjoyable. Educational Officers together with National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF) Graduates observe and assist learners through this process.

Science Games

A Super Science Silly game is used for primary school learners.

Science Shows

National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF) interns together with Educational officers perform fun science experiments for primary school learners using household materials. Learners also assist us so as to make it interactive.

Funda-Care

National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF) graduates together with Educational officers assist grade 11 and grade 12 learners with mathematics and physical science so that they can achieve better results and improve their performance. Classes take place from Monday to Thursday after school.  
                                 
Science Club   

  • Competitions like Computer Olympiad, Eskom-Expo, Science Olympiad and Maths Olympiad are held to create an interactive and competitive spirit among members.
  • Video/slide shows are organised based on selected topics, e.g. the digestion system (Lesson on Life Science) and engineering fields video shows.
  • Debates among members are organised based on scientific topics, such as World Health Day, National Water Week (Enviro. days)
  • Educational excursions include visits to industries such as Eskom, ArcelorMittal South Africa, Planetaria, Aquaria, Institutes and Zoos.
  • Problem-solving challenges are arranged around a set of maths or science problems.

Out-reach

Mobile Science Laboratory

The mobile laboratory serves as a chemistry and physics laboratory. We reach large number of learners who are unable to visit the Science Centre but who are in need of a laboratory.

High School Practicals

We bring our mobile science laboratories to the school that requires assistance. National Science and Technology Forum graduates together with educational officers offer assistance with physical science and life science practicals to grade 10 to 12 learners. We demonstrate experiments in topics pertaining to their syllabus.

Science Shows

Science communicators perform fun science experiments at the schools around District 7 and District 8.

Exhibits:  During the school visits the staff bring along portable exhibits to the school for learners to interact with.

Road Shows

Communication, marketing and educating the community around the Vaal Triangle with different Science related themes. Staff from ArcelorMittal Science Centre visits malls, schools and community halls.

 
Forthcoming events

Science Week: ArcelorMittal Science Centre will be hosting a National Science Week from 1 August to 6 August 2011.This event will be celebrated across the country by different organisations.

The purpose of National Science Week is to expose learners to different fields of science, to motivate and support learners to do science related subjects and to expose them into the career offered by different companies.

Sasol Techno-X: ArcelorMittal Science Centre will be exhibiting at Sasol’sTechno-X from 16 to 19 August 2011.
